MAIA Gynecology
After years in a large, private-equity-owned practice, Dr. Karen Wolowick recognized a shift in priorities that no longer aligned with her vision for patient care. The focus had become volume-driven, leaving little time for meaningful connections. Determined to create something different, she opened MAIA Gynecology as an independent practice built around one core principle: putting patients first. “I knew I wanted something different. A practice where the patient comes first, where I have the time to actually listen,” she says.
That philosophy is evident the moment patients walk through the door. From easy online scheduling and on-time appointments to private changing areas and comfortable cloth gowns, every detail is intentional. “It sounds simple, but those details add up to something patients feel the moment they walk in,” Dr. Wolowick explains. “A gynecology visit doesn’t have to feel clinical and uncomfortable. We’ve worked hard to make sure it doesn’t.”
Dr. Wolowick also emphasizes how women’s health needs evolve over time. While concerns may vary from fertility planning in their 30s to hormonal changes in their 40s and perimenopause in their 50s, common issues like weight gain, low libido, and fatigue often overlap. MAIA addresses these concerns with both clinical expertise and a personalized approach tailored to each patient.
Preventative care also remains a cornerstone of MAIA’s philosophy. Annual visits go far beyond routine screenings, offering a comprehensive look at a patient’s overall health. “Think of it as your whole-woman checkup, not just a Pap,” she says. These appointments allow time to monitor changes, address concerns, and connect patients with additional specialists when needed. “If everything looks perfect? Great. We’ll see you again next year. That’s the goal.”
Convenience and continuity of care are further enhanced by offering many procedures in-house, including those performed with IV sedation. Patients can undergo treatments in a familiar, comfortable environment, surrounded by a team they already trust.
For women who may feel hesitant about scheduling an appointment, MAIA aims to redefine what gynecologic care can be: attentive, respectful, and centered entirely on the patient. As Dr. Wolowick shares, “Nobody should be putting off their health because they’re afraid to come see us. We’re here, and we’d love to take care of you.”
